These have a drawstring, so the waist is going to read smaller. Expect an extra 3-5" of total circumference allowance. 

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a medium in these. He tends to go medium in the shorts and large in the pants. These had a pretty solid, above-the-knee fit. In this particular short, he could've sized up because of the drawstring, but chose to stick with his true size and it worked perfectly. We recommend you grab your normal size unless you're in between sizes, then go up. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with between a 32-33" waist.
